Vietnam Needs US$4.58 Bln for Waterway Transport by 2020

Vietnam is estimated to require VND73.3 trillion (US$4.58 billion) to develop inland waterway transport from now to 2020 under a recently-issued decision by the Ministry of Transport.
 
The investment is aimed to raise waterway transport capacity to 210 million tons of cargo by 2010 and 540 million passengers annually by 2020.
 
Of the total investment, around VND36.78 trillion will be poured into infrastructure development including port and transport route upgrade and the rest will be spent on building and maintaining boats.
 
Under the decision, the ministry also announced the adjustment and planning of 26 cargo and 15 passenger ports in the southern region, six cargo ports in the central region and 41 cargo and six passenger ports in the north. (Investment)
