Vietnam Exports nearly US$10.7 Bln of Agro, Forestry, Seafood in Jan-August

Exports of agricultural, forestry and seafood products brought in US$10.694 to Vietnam in the first eight months of 2008, up around 33 per cent on year, the General Statistics Office (GSO) showed.
 
Of the sum, exports of rice, coffee, fruit and vegetable, rubber, pepper, cashew nuts, and tea, were US$5.983 billion, up more than 44 per cent.
 
During the period, Vietnam saw the increased prices of almost all of agricultural product exports that helped raise export revenues despite decreased volume.
 
Export of rice dropped by 4.8 per cent in volume but up 96.1 per cent in value in Jan-Aug, to 3.381 million tons worth US$2.235 billion, respectively.
 
Export of coffee also decreased by 22.4 per cent in volume to only 728,000 tons, but earnings reached US$1.537 billion, up 9.2 per cent.
 
Vietnam raked in US$1.041 billion from exporting 383,000 tons of rubber, up 30.5 per cent on year in value, despite a fall of 9.6 per cent in volume.
 
The country’s export of tea also rose 30.9 per cent to US$97 million despite a drop of 2.6 per cent in volume at only 70,000 tons.
 
Meanwhile, exports of cashew nuts and pepper soared in volume and value against the Jan-Aug of 2007. The export of 109,000 tons of cashew nuts brought in US$597 million to Vietnam, up 12 per cent in volume and 49.6 per cent in value.
 
The country also raked in US$234 million from exporting 66,000 tons of pepper, on year rises of 25.7 per cent in value and 11.2 per cent in volume.
 
Seafood exports marked on year rises of 20.8 per cent with total revenues of US$2.889 billion, and woodwork exports generated in US$1.822 billion, up 20.5 per cent on year. (Vietnam Economic Times, GSO August Edition)
