The U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) has decided to apply the zero antidumping tariff on shrimp products exported by four Vietnamese companies, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
In the final ruling on antidumping duty for warm-water shrimp imported from Vietnam for the period covering Feb 1, 2006 through Jan 31, 2007, posted in Federal Register Sept 10, the DOC said the four companies include Minh Phat Seafood Co.Ltd, Camimex, Grobest & I-Mei Industry Vietnam, and Viet Hai Seafoods Company Ltd.
The department admitted that the four Vietnamese companies have not sold at below market costs so their antidumping rates are zero.
Meanwhile, DOC taxed 4.57 per cent on shrimp imports from 23 other Vietnamese firms, including Amanda, C.P Vietnam, Cadovimex, Cafatex, Cataco, Cofidec, Cuu Long SeaPro, Seaprodex DaNang, Frozen Seafood Factory No.32, Incomfish, Kim Anh Co, Minh Hai Jostoco, Seaprimex Co, Ngoc Sinh Seafoods, Nha Trang Fisco, Nha Trang Seafoods, Phu Cuong Co.Ltd, Phuong Nam Co.Ltd, Fimex VN, Stapimex, Utxi Co.Ltd, Viet Foods Co.Ltd and Vimexco.
Only one company named Minh Hai Joint Stock Seafoods Processing Company enjoys the duty rate at 4.30 percent.
The countrywide rate for other companies is at 25.76 per cent.
Vietnamese companies set target to export US$850 million worth of seafood products to the U.S. in 2008. Last year Vietnam’s products made up 6.2 per cent of the U.S’s total seafood imports at US$12 billion. (Vasep, VNS)
