Vietnam is estimated to export more than US$13.2 billion worth of agricultural, forestry and seafood products in the first ten months of 2008, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).
The office said seafood is the biggest earner with total export revenue of US$3.83 billion in Jan-Oct period, up 23.7 per cent against the same period of last year.
Export of wooden furniture has brought in US$2.274 billion, a rise of 18.6 per cent on year, the office said.
Among seven farm produce exports, rice is taking lead in revenue with US$2.611 billion, up 83.4 per cent compared to the first ten months of 2007. The GSO said in the Jan-Oct period, Vietnam shipped 4.086 million tons of rice abroad, down 6.7 per cent on year.
Meanwhile, the country is estimated to have exported 810,000 tons of coffee, earning US$1.699 billion, down more than 21 per cent in volume but up 9.5 per cent in value.
Export of 514,000 tons of rubber has brought in US$1.396 billion ton the country, down 9.9 per cent in volume but up 28.9 per cent in value.
Vietnam also gained a rise of 28.4 per cent in cashew nut export revenue with US$676 million, from exporting 120,000 tons of nuts in the first ten months, down 3.1 per cent in volume.
The GSO said the country have also notched up US$316 million from exporting fruits and vegetables, US$273 million from exporting 71,000 tons of pepper, and US$127 million from exporting 91,000 tons of tea in Jan-Oct of 2008.
The MARD early this year targeted US$14 billion worth of agricultural, forestry and seafood exports for the whole of 2008, up 9 per cent against last year.
Of the total, exports of farm produce are expected to bring in US$6.6 billion, up 7.8 per cent; forestry products, USUS$2.5 billion, up 5.9 per cent; and seafood, US$4.52 billion, up 19.2 per cent. (GSO October Edition)
