Vietnam Shoe Exports to Hit US$4.4 Bln in 2008
Vietnam is forecast to bag in US$4.4 billion from shoe exports this year, compared with the set target of US$4.5 billion, according to the Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association (Lefaso).
Lefaso predicted that shoe shipments will reach US$660 million in the two remaining months of the year, plus the figure of US$3.75 billion in the first ten months.
The association said despite difficulties from the global economic recession, Vietnam’s shoe exports to several markets like Australia, Holland, Russia, Spain, Brazil and Argentina in the final months see good growth compared with the same period last year.
Footwear is now Vietnam’s third largest forex earner, behind crude oil and apparel. In 2007, the country earned roughly US$4 billion from footwear exports. (Vietnam Economic Times)
