Vietnam's Dung Quat Refinery Gets First Crude Oil Inflow for Trial Run
The management board of the Vietnam's first oil refinery Dung Quat said that they Nov 30 received the first 80,000 tons of crude oil from Bach Ho oil field supplied by the PetroVietnam Oil Corporation (PV Oil) for the plant's test run, state media reported.
PV Oil, which is not only the crude oil supplier for the refinery’s trial run period but also its products’ distributor, will provide 4 million tons of crude oil from the Bach Ho (White Tiger), the country's biggest oilfield, during Dung Quat’s one-year trial run, said the state-owned oil monopoly PetroVietnam group.
All 3.4 million tons of oil and gas products produced at the refinery during trial will be distributed by PV Oil.
Once officially operational in 2010, the plant is expected to produce around 5.7 million tons of internationally-standardized petroleum products to primarily serve domestic consumption.
Witnessing the crude oil receiving ceremony, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Huynh Ngoc Son expressed his belief that the refinery would come into operation on schedule to ensure energy security for the country.
The refinery is designed to be capable of refining 6.5 million tons of crude oil into liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), propylene, 90RON and 92RON gasoline, kerosene, Jet A1, diesel oil (DO), and fuel oil (FO) which are expected to meet 33 per cent of local demands.
So far, the underway US$2.5 billion oil refinery has almost 98 per cent of its construction workload completed with an expected for trial run in February 2009. (Youth, VNA)
