Air carriers in Vietnam have announced that they will offer promotional fares for this traditional Tet festival as usual at the consecutive falls of oil prices, Vietnamese state media reported.

Vietnam Airlines last week announced to sell 12,000 promotional fares lower than normal fares from Dec 15 till Feb 6 as part of the national flag carrier’s annual program entitled “Happiness for Family Reunion”.

The airline knocks off 50 per cent of the seats on certain flights from Hanoi and Danang to HCMC from February 1 to 25.

Meanwhile, there are fares valued at VND400,000 and VND600,000 for a single trip between HCMC and Danang, and VND900,000 and VND1.1 million for a trip between here and Hanoi. The fares will be for the flights from Jan 30 to Feb 6, or after Tet, which falls on January 26.

The low cost carrier, Jetstar Pacific, that had said that airfare for Tet will be decided by market demand, December 1 also announced it will reduce airfare during the Tet.

Accordingly, the price for the Danang–Ho Chi Minh City route will be reduced VND 150.000 and the Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City will be reduced VND 450.000.

These reduced fares will be offered by Jetstar Pacific from January 16th to January 26th, 2009.

From January 29th to February 6th, 2009, however, passengers will have to pay the normal price for their tickets.

In addition, Jetstar Pacific will offer several special ticket options for its passengers. Customers will be able to pay the discounted price suit if they book in advance.

Currently, the highest airfare from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi by Jetstar Pacific is VND 1,720.000.
