Only 30 per cent of Vietnamese Surf Internet for Information
Only 30 per cent out of total 20.2 million Internet users in Vietnam spent their online time reading news and searching for information while 53 per cent on chatting, downloading music, playing games online and writing blogs, the Youth (Tuoi Tre) newspaper said.
Currently, Vietnam has about 4 million online gamers and the figure is estimated to increase to 10 million by 2010, according to a recent survey by Pearl Research, San Francisco-based business consulting firm.
Another search company, Cimigo, has just released its survey over 1,000 internet users aged between 15 and 24 in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, finding four out of every 10 Vietnamese people surf the Internet at least once a week.
The survey revealed the fact that 55 per cent of the interviewed youths had created their own blogs, reflecting an increasing trend among the youth for expressing themselves and communicating with others.
The three most favorite websites among Vietnamese young internet users are Google, Zing, and Yahoo, while Google, Tuoi Tre, VN Express and Dan Tri websites are found to be popular among those above 25.
Vietnamese authorities said that they will issue a regulation to tighten state management over the blogs and may hire Yahoo and Google specialists to combat online criminals, the state media said. (Youth, VNA)
