Vietnam's Power Sector Targets Output of 83.3 Bln kWh in 2009
The Vietnamese electricity sector has targeted to generate nearly 83.3 billion kWh in 2009, up 12.5 per cent on year, according to Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN).
EVN is expected to produce 57.44 billion kWh while the rest will be purchased from power plants managed by other groups such as the state-owned oil monopoly PetroVietnam group and the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin).
The sector also expects to increase the nation's electricity commercial output by 13.6 per cent to 74.9 billion kWh in the year.
To achieve the goal, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has requested the country's sole electricity distributor EVN to accelerate construction of a number of power plants such as Cam Pha, Haiphong, O Mon, Quang Ninh, Cua Dat, Song Con, Se San 4, and An Khe-KaNak in an effort to add 4,082 MW of power more to the national electricity system this year.
The ministry, moreover, asked EVN to take drastic measures to reduce power leakage rate as well as boost electricity saving in daily consumption and production.
In 2008, Vietnam’s electricity production volume increased by 10.8 per cent and its power commercial output rose 12.8 per cent against the previous year. (Vietnam Economic Times)
