Rice Prices Falls Early 2009

Rice prices have slightly dropped since the beginning of 2009 for both domestic and exports, according to the Industry and Trade Information Center under the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
 
In Mekong Delta provinces, paddy prices are averaging at VND3,800-VND4,000 a kilogram, while one-grade rice is offered at VND5,300 a kilogram, down by VND100 a kilogram.
 
Meanwhile, prices of exported rice also decreased by VND100-VND200 a kilogram, with 5 per cent broken rice for export being offered at VND6,300 a kilogram; 10 per cent broken rice, VND6,000 a kilogram; and 25 per cent broken rice, VND4,900 a kilogram.
 
The center said export prices of Vietnamese rice also slightly dropped. Prices of both 5 per cent broken rice and 25 per cent broken rice decreased by US$15 a ton, to US$380-US$450 a ton, and US$330-US$340 a ton, respectively.
 
Vietnam planned to export 2.4 million tons of rice in the first half of 2009.
