Russia Reopens Market for Vietnamese Pangasius
Russia has decided to resume import of Vietnamese pangasius by re-allowing ten Vietnamese companies to export the fish to the country.
Beneficiaries include the Hung Vuong, Vinh Hoan, Mekong Fish, and Ben Tre Seafood Export companies.
A delegation comprising four Russian inspectors arrived in Vietnam February 16, planning to make inspection tour to several seafood processing plants from February 18.
The Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance decided to halt importing Vietnamese pangasius from December 20, 2008 because the product did not meet Russia’s safety and hygiene standards.
In 2008, Vietnamese companies exported more than US$200 million worth of pangasius to Russia. (VOV, Young People)
