Vietnam and Kuwait have just signed a double taxation avoidance agreement and a deal in agricultural cooperation, as part of bilateral efforts to expand multilateral ties, the government of Vietnam has said on its Website.

The deals were reached after talks between Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and high-profile delegation with Kuwaiti officials led by his Kuwaiti counterpart Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah in the Bayan Palace on Mar 10.

“Kuwait sees Vietnam as a major partner for its prioritized ties in Southeast Asia,” Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah said.

The two PMs agreed to strengthen cooperation in infrastructure development, finance, trade, agriculture and labor for the real benefits of the people of the two countries.

The communist and Muslim leaders also discussed global issues of common concerns.

This is the first time the Vietnamese prime minister has set his feet in the Middle East country since the bilateral diplomatic ties were set up in 1976.

This year two-way trade is forecast to jump 10 per cent to US$127 million excluding Vietnam's petroleum imports.

Last year bilateral trade was US$116 million, up from US$65.5 million in 2007.

Vietnam's main exports to Kuwait are milk, seafood, tea, furniture, apparels, handicrafts, cable wires and electronics. (www.chinhphu.vn)
