Hanoi to Host 9th ASEM Foreign Ministers' Meeting in May

The 9th ASEM Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (FMM 9) will take place in Hanoi, Vietnam on May 25 and 26, the first one since the ASEM was expanded to 45 members in October last year in Beijing.
 
The event will be a valuable opportunity for foreign ministers, ambassadors and Consul Generals of ASEM members to work out measures to tighten the liaison as well as to overcome cope with the current financial crisis and other global challenges, Vietnamese Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem said.
 
Representatives from such international financial institutions as the IMF, the World Bank and ADB offices in Vietnam will also be invited to share their insights.
 
On the sideline of the event, a ASEM Business Forum themed “Strengthening Asia – Europe economic ties to overcome the global financial crisis and beyond” will be held May 6 in Ho Chi Minh City by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
