Vietsovpetro Discovers New Oil Flow in Cuu Long Basin
Vietsovpetro - a joint venture of PetroVietnam and Russia's Zarubezhneft - found a new oil flow on July 2 while probing oil in the fractured basement at the northeast Bach Ho (White Tiger)-19 well in the Cuu Long basin offshore southern Vietnam.
The joint venture found the oil flow at a depth of between 4,606 meters and 4,654 meters, said Tran Van Hoi, Vietsovpetro’s deputy general manager on Geology, adding that this is the strongest oil flow his company discovered over the past 28 years.
Vietsovpetro will continue drilling the well to a depth of 5,180 meters to find the line between oil and water at the well.
The state-run oil monopoly PetroVietnam group has to date pumped 1.4 billion barrels of crude oil from fractured basements, representing nearly 90 per cent of the total oil output by Vietnam’s oil and gas sector. (New Hanoi, Urban Economy)
