Vietnam Needs VND30T to Clear Site for North-South Railway

Vietnam-Japan Consulting Joint Venture (VJC) said site clearance of the North-South Railway project requires a total investment of VND30 trillion (US$1.764 billion).
 
As many as 4,170 hectares of land are expected to be cleared, and of which urban land accounts for 9 per cent, rural land makes up 20 per cent and agricultural and forest land accounts for 71 per cent.
 
Around 16,500 households will be affected by the project, of those, 9,500 will lose housing land and 7,000 will lose production land.
 
In Ho Chi Minh City, more than 1,700 urban households will lose land due to the project.
 
The North-South Railway, which is 1,570 long, has a total investment of US$55.85 billion.
 
The route’s Hanoi-Vinh and HCM City-Nha Trang sections are expected to be put into operation by 2020 and Vinh-Danang section will be opened to traffic by 2030.
 
The whole route will become operational in 2035. (Vietnam Economic Times)
