FAO: Vietnam Could Export 5.4M Tons of Rice This Year
The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has forecast that Vietnam will likely ship 5.4 million tons of rice this year, behind Thailand with 8.3 million tons this year.
FAO based its forecast on bump crops of Vietnam this year and dropping prices of rice on the global market while the world demand for rice is rising.
FAO also noted that exporting prices of Vietnamese rice are US$161/ton cheaper than Thai rice.
Vietnam exported 3.802 million of metric tons of rice valued at US$1.816 billion in the first half of this year, up 56.2 per cent on-year in terms of volume and up 24.1 per cent on-year in terms of value, GSO said. (MOIT)
