Vietnam Earns US$276M from Cassava Export in Jan-Aug, up 150% on-year
Vietnam exported US$276 million worth of cassava products in the first eight months of 2009, up 150% compared to the same period of last year.
China was the biggest importer of Vietnamese cassava during the period with total revenue of US$251.7 million, up 187% from a year earlier, the Information Center for Agriculture and Rural Development (Agroinfo) under The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said.
The center said that the Chinese government’s move to increase ethanol processing capacity to two million tons in 2010 pushed up prices of Vietnamese cassava.
In Aug 2009, Vietnamese cassava slice was offered at US$163 per ton, up from US$109.6 per ton in Jan. (Agro.gov.vn)
