Vietnam, Malaysia Boosting Economic, Trade Ties

The first meeting of the Vietnam-Malaysia Joint Trade Committee on accelerating bilateral economic and trade ties opened in Singapore on Nov. 12 on the sideline of the 21st APEC Ministerial Meeting.
 
Vietnamese Industry and Trade Minister Vu Huy Hoang and his Malaysian counterpart Dato’ Mustapa Mohamed agreed to conduct more trade and investment promotion activities in the next years.
 
The two ministers also discussed measures to boost bilateral cooperation in the new fields of minerals, hydropower, electric equipment production and green energy.
 
Malaysia is Vietnam’s third largest trading partner in ASEAN with the bilateral trade of US$4.55 billion last year. The two-way trade stood at US$3 billion in the first nine months of this year.
 
It also ranks the first among ASEAN investors in Vietnam, with 337 projects capitalized at US$18.06 billion. (Trade & Industry, VIR)
