Vietnam-Spain’s Priority Partner in Asia-Pacific: King Juan Carlos
Spanish King Juan Carlos affirmed his country considers Vietnam as its priority partner in the Asia-Pacific region to develop the bilateral ties while receiving a visiting Vietnamese leader in Madrid Dec 14.
King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia gave a royal reception to Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet and his wife at the El Pardo Palace, the Communist Party of Vietnam said on its website Dec 14.
The Vietnamese President told the Spanish King that the two nations should expand the cooperation in fields of economy, trade, investment, science and technology, tourism, culture and education.
President Triet also met with Madrid Mayor Alberto Ruiz-Gallardon on the same day. The Madrid Mayor presented the Vietnamese President a Golden Key to become an honorable citizen of the city.
As part of the Vietnamese President’s visit to Spain between Dec 13-16, State Auditor General Vuong Dinh Hue held talks with President of the Spanish Court of Audit Manuel Nunez Perez to exchange experiences and achievements in the auditing field and measures to further enhance the two agencies’ cooperation.
The ongoing trip by Vietnamese President Triet will open cooperative opportunities for 300 enterprises of both sides, Spanish Ambassador Fernando Curcio told the financial website Stockbiz.
The diplomat noted Spanish businesses will extend their operation in Vietnam in various fields, particularly in infrastructures which is very significant for the Southeast Asian nation to lure more foreign investors.
Trade between Vietnam and Spain has seen an annual growth of 25%-30% over the past five years, hitting nearly US$1.2 billion in 2008.
Approx 3,000 Vietnamese people are living in the boot-shaped European nation. (
