On the occasion of the 35th Anniversary of Liberation of south Vietnam and National Reunification Day (April 30 1975-2010), historian Duong Trung Quoc has an article on the signification and historical value of the event. Vietnam Business Forum would like to introduce this exclusive writing.

As many as 30 springs have gone by since the country was unified and completely liberated. As I have known according to the statistics, more than 60 % of Vietnam’s current population includes people who were born after April 30 1975. With the stunning spirit of Great Spring Victory on April 30, the Vietnamese party, state and people have been putting their belief on young generations, the country’s future owners.

They are young businessmen, scientists who are always enterprising and decisive in business, contributing to the country’s socio-economic development. They also are pupils, students striving to study and in the context of the rapid development of science and technology. If,in the past, young people were pioneers in the wars against French colonialists and American imperialists, nowadays the young generation is also major forces to shoulder the great duties of reforming and developing the country on the right track.

To look back on the history, the victory April 30 is one out of the most stunning milestones in the history of founding and defending our country. The victory indicates the revolution stuff and the intelligence of Vietnamese. The victory was built on the enduring internal force and the thousand-year cultural tradition of the nation. It also reflects the clear-sighted leadership of late President Ho Chi Minh and the Communist Party as well as the wholehearted support of advanced nations in the world.

In the new age, the spirit of Victory April 30 has been encouraging and contributing to the achievements in the building and development process. The determination and desire for progress make Vietnamese people overcome difficulties and challenges in the economic development. The creativeness is one among characters of Vietnamese who always take advantage of opportunities to turn challenges into advantages. Facing many difficulties, Vietnamese are obviously aware of the strength of solidarity which has been proven by the history, including the state’s policies for the career of education and social welfare.

Nowadays as the face of world politics-socio-economics has entered a new page which prefers dialogues to armed violence, the Vietnamese state and people with their hospitality are always open to international friends. The Vietnamese government has been striving to expand friendship and cooperative relations with other nations and to create transparent rules in order to facilitate foreign investors to do long-term business in Vietnam.

The Communist Party of Vietnam also pays a special attention to the making the country’s economy prosper via issuing clear policies and resolutions. The government particularly encourages the development of different economic elements in the fields of industry, agriculture and service.

On the 35th anniversary of Liberation of South Vietnam and National Reunification Day as well as the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi, I as a historian would like to mention the lesson of chance. The chance is an important concept which connects closely with the success and failure of each individual, each regime and each nation. The lesson from August Revolution 1945 as well as the lesson from Great Spring Victory April 30 have been a guideline for our nation to gain achievements in the development process.

The chance of Vietnam, currently, is based on the stable politics, the open policy of external relations and the motto “Vietnam wants to make friend with all countries”. These orientations have created opportunities for the country to attract investors and gradually raise its status in the international arena. To look back on the history, almost all progresses in politics-economics are thanks to well applying the lesson of chance.
