Malaysia to Recruit More Vietnam Workers: Minister
Malaysia will continue to employ more Vietnamese workers in the future and will do its best to ensure their safety, Dr. S. Subramanian, Malaysian Minister of Human Resources, said on the sidelines of the 21st ASEAN Labor Ministers’ Meeting (ALMM), which took place in Hanoi on May 24.
“Vietnamese workers are hard-working and are contributing to our economy development,” the Vietnam News Agency said, citing Subramanian.
Malaysia has rules and regulations to ensure that Vietnamese workers’ rights are protected and they can work in a pleasant environment, he added.
To develop human resources for economic recovery after the global financial crisis, ASEAN countries should raise quality of their workforces’ skills and the proportion of fully trained workers, Subramanian noted at the meeting.
Speaking about the initiative to set up a common ASEAN labor market where a worker from one country can easily secure jobs in another, the Malaysian minister said the issue would be discussed in detail at this meeting, to ensure that every ASEAN member country benefits.
Vietnam started sending workers to Malaysia in early 1992 and there are currently 100,000 Vietnamese working in the country, mostly in industrial production, said the Department for Overseas Labor Management under the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA). (VNA)
