Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has recently urged investors and contractors of Vinh Tan 2 and Duyen Hai 1 coal-fired power projects to speed up preparations for the plants’ start-up by mid-2010.

Hai expected turbines 1 of the plants will become operational in 2013.

He emphasized the efficiency of those projects and asked contractors to prevent squandering during construction of breakwaters for the Vinh Tan coal port for the Vinh Tan 2 power plant.

The Vinh Tan 2 power plant is part of the 4,400-MW Vinh Tan power center worth US$6.1 billion in the central province of Binh Thuan.

The 1,245-MW Duyen Hai 1, to be located in the Mekong Delta province of Tra Vinh, is expected to generate between 7.5 billion and 8 billion kWh of power a year. (Youth)
