Royal Haskoning: Gives a Helping Hand
Vietnam has the same problem as the Netherlands: threat of flooding. Both countries are densely populated and located largely below or at sea level. That’s why climate changes and potential sea-level rises are serious threats for Vietnam and the Netherlands in the future. For years, Vietnam, especially Ho Chi Minh City has reaped benefits from the Dutch water management expertise. Royal Haskoning is proud of playing an important role in providing valuable assistance to Vietnam with respect to improvement of flood control and waste-water treatment.
The agreement on climate adaptation was signed between Ho Chi Minh City and the City of Rotterdam in the 4 day visit of Crown Prince Willem Alexander and Princess Máxima of the Netherlands to Vietnam from 28-31 March. This will mark a new milestone for the cooperation between Vietnam and the Netherlands related to water issues. Regarding to this agreement, Royal Haskoning will play an important role in drawing up the action plan named “Ho Chi Minh City Moving Towards the Sea with Climate Adaptation”. This plan will provide Vietnam, especially Ho Chi Minh City with state-of-the-art Dutch delta technology and experience in the fields of spatial planning, strategy, ports development and decision-making on water safety and the supply of fresh water and enabling economic developments.
Mr. Erik Oostwegel, Chairman of the Board of Management of Royal Haskoning, who accompanied the Dutch economic mission to Vietnam, said: “Royal Haskoning has been active in Vietnam for more than 20 years. That’s longer than most Dutch companies. We are involved in various projects in both the public and private sectors. We are building ports, plants and buildings. We’re also working closely joined forces in this respect, as laid down in an extension partnership agreement, to be signed together with our partners in the recently created Dutch-Vietnamese initiatives aimed at making Vietnam more climate-change resistant”.
With professionalism and latest technology, Royal Haskoning has gained the trust of international and local clients both in public sector and in private sector in Vietnam. The fundamental values underpin Royal Haskoning’s success till now are its expertise and of course its strong commitment to quality in every project.
Together with strong cooperation and active support from the Dutch Government, Royal Haskoning Vietnam will continue to call upon the heritage of engineering for water projects and other sectors. The company will further contribute to the socio-economic development of Vietnam as well as to the deep and wide cooperation relationship of Vietnam and the Netherlands.
