Buon Ma Thuot Planned to Be Central City of Central Highlands
The People's Committee of Buon Ma Thuot City - the provincial capital of Dak Lak, recently collaborated with the Institute of Urban and Rural Architecture and Planning under the Ministry of Construction, and the National University of Singapore to host an international conference on “Planning Buon Ma Thuot as the central city of the Central Highlands.” The event was attended by senior professionals and scientists in Vietnam and in the world.
Huynh Ngoc Luan, Chairman of Buon Ma Thuot People’s Committee, said that municipal authorities have launched target action plans to build and develop Buon Ma Thuot into a central city of the Central Highlands before 2020. Accordingly, the city will focus investments on building and developing processing industry, science, technology, service, education, sports and health to give momentums to accelerate the development of the five-province region. It will also ensure balanced, synchronous development of urban zones in both short and long terms.
With 10 presentations and six opinions, the conference provided a new and more comprehensive vision for the city’s urban planning. Contributed remarks focus on education, urban space, tourism, urban structure, traffic system, cultural identity and architecture.
