The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) considers sea tourism as one of its top priorities in its draft National tourism development strategy for the 2010-2020 period and vision for 2030.

Under the Sea and island tourism development project in the 2011-2020 period, five sea tourism regions will be developed in Ha Long-Cat Ba; Lang Co-Son Tra-Hoi An; Nha Trang-Cam Ranh, Phan Thiet-Mui Ne, and Phu Quoc

The project specifies that the development of sea and island tourism must be coupled with ensuring national security and socio-economic growth.

The South Central Coast stretching from Danang city to Binh Thuan province will enjoy the highest tourism growth rate in the coming time, said Associate Professor Pham Trung Luong, Vice Director of the Institute for Tourism Development Research.

Mr Luong pointed out that, the Central Highlands, though boasting tourism potentials, would have the slowest tourism growth rate.

The Associate Professor also figured out the fact that climate change would challenge tourism development in Vietnam in general and the Mekong Delta region in particular.
