Plans of Six Aquatic Breeding Areas Approved

Six areas supplying brackish and salt aquatic breeds will be established in 2004-2006 period, according to the aquatic breeding development programme by 2010 recently approved by the Ministry of Fisheries.

The areas, with 200-500 breeding farms and an annual capacity of 10 million breeding shrimps per farm, include Cam Lap in Khanh Hoa province, Ninh Hai in Ninh Thuan, Ngoc Hien in Ca Mau, Phu Quoc in Kien Giang, Hiep Thanh in Bac Lieu and Quang Nam.

The ministry also plans to set up three national freshwater aquatic breeding centres, three national seafood breeding centres, and 16 other aquatic breeding centres to meet the aquaculture sector’s increasing demand for breeds nationwide.
