Vietnam Committed to Using ODA Loans Effectively
Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has vowed that Vietnam will use official development assistance (ODA) loans effectively and transparently and boost anti-corruption activities.
Speaking at the 2012 mid-term Consultative Group (CG) Meeting for Vietnam, which opened in Quang Tri province on June 5, Deputy PM Hai thanked donors for their constant assistance to Vietnam’s development process as well as their commitments to help the country’s central region overcome natural disasters and reduce poverty in a sustainable way.
Over the past years, Hai said, the Party and State have adopted favourable policies for localities to improve their people’s living conditions.
Although the central region has made great progress in socio-economic development and poverty reduction, there remain many challenges and difficulties to overcome, Hai pointed out.
The region accounts for 20 percent of the country’s total population but barely 14 percent of its GDP and often hit by natural disasters and climate change.
Minister of Planning and Investment Bui Quang Vinh said the focus of discussions will be effective measures to help the central region through a difficult time.
