Dong An Trademark: Prestige and High Quality

The trademark of Dong An dried seafood has been confirmed in the international markets.

At the time new Law of Enterprise was applied, in order to create work for poor local labourers and create benefits, Mr. Tran Minh Trinh decided to establish his own company, Dong An Co., Ltd., specializing in producing and exporting dried seafood.

Like many other newly established companies, his company faced challenges entering the market. However, with the passing of time, business has been improving. At present, there are some 2,400 labours working in five processing factories of the company, of which four factories are located in Quang Nam Province and one in Quang Ngai Province. With a decisive effort to increase the quality of products and improve the reputation of the company, Mr. Trinh has always tried to bring domestic forces into full play, where the labourers' creativeness and solidarity are highly appreciated and encouraged. Therefore, the quality of the company’s products is constantly high. Today, the trademark Dong An has been confirmed in the South Korean market. In 2002, achieving 20 per cent over planned export productivity, the company was awarded a sum of VND40 million (US$2,540) by the Ministry of Finance.

In 2003, the export value was US$3 million and the estimated value for 2004 is VND80 billion (US$5.1 million). The workers' average monthly salary is VND750,000 (US$47) per person. In the coming time, Dong An Co., Ltd. will actively expand its markets, and maintain its existing markets of Japan, South Korea, China and Taiwan.

According to Mr. Trinh, expanding the company’s markets will help improve the export situation of the company, and especially if the state offers favourable conditions for borrowing cash from banks and funds. So far, Quang Nam Peoples’ Committee has released guidelines for off-shore fishing, in which freezing storage is supported, especially in Chu Lai open economic zone. This has greatly helped the company in its production of seafood for export.
