Vietnam, Poland Strengthening Cooperation in Construction Materials

Recently, at the head office of Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) in Hanoi, Dr Doan Duy Khuong, VCCI Vice President, had a meeting with a delegation of the Union of Refractory Construction Materials Manufacturers ROPCZYCE of Poland headed by Prof. Dr Jerzy Lis, an academician of the Polish Academy of Sciences and former Vice Chancellor of AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, accompanied by 6 leading scientists in the field of construction materials of AGH Krakow Academy and leaders of the Union of Refractory Construction Materials Manufacturers ROPCZYCE.
 
The purpose of the Polish delegation’s visit to Vietnam is to exchange scientific cooperation, technology transfer, human resource training in the field of construction materials, refractory materials and learn about the potential of these items in Vietnam’s market, as well as countries in the region.
 
In particular, the Polish side wants to cooperate with Vietnamese partners to transfer modern technology of Poland for the production of refractory materials in Vietnam; to invest in the production of refractory materials or capital, and in scientific research between Poland and Vietnam and technological development in the field of refractory construction materials (cement, concrete, ceramics, glass technology, etc). In addition, the Polish delegation is also eager to learn more about Vietnam’s market and the regional countries to export products from Poland to Vietnam and through Vietnam to other countries, and learn about Vietnam’s ability to use materials for the production of refractory materials, construction materials and to train professionals in the field of new refractory materials production.
 
According to Dr Khuong, Vietnam always attaches importance to good relations and multifaceted cooperation with Poland; and Poland is a preferred partner in the Central European region. Dr Khuong also desires Poland to continue to support, facilitate to promote multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Poland, as well as between Vietnam and the EU. The VCCI will create the best conditions for Polish enterprises to invest in Vietnam and will identify the areas of cooperation that both sides have strengths and potential to promote.
 
Dr Khuong also confirmed that in the coming time VCCI will organise seminars to introduce potential cooperation opportunities for the 2 sides.
 
According to VCCI, Poland is Vietnam’s number one trading partner in Eastern Europe, trade turnover has increased rapidly over the years and mostly Vietnam had surplus. However, the two sides evaluated that economic relations are not commensurate with the potential and desire of the two countries.
 
Vietnam mainly exports to Poland electrical items, mobile phones and accessories, computers, electronic products and components, seafood, textiles, garments, coffee, iron and iron products, and products from plastics, rubber, rattan, bamboo, sedge and carpet, etc.
 
In terms of investment, as of December 2013, Poland had 10 investment projects with total registered capital of VND99.74 million, ranking 40 out of 98 countries and territories investing in Vietnam, with their main investment form being 100 percent foreign owned. The investment projects are focused in the field of real estate business, the rest is of accommodation sector, industrial manufacturing and communication. Poland's investment is concentrated in the provinces and cities in the North, namely Ha Noi, Quang Ninh, etc. Vietnam has 3 investment projects in Poland with a total investment capital of approximately US$8 million in the service sector and the food industry.
