Lam Dong is a mountainous province with roads being the most common and important type which positively contribute to the socio-economic development and investment attraction through out the province.
Currently, the province has a 8,449 km road system including 19.2 km of expressway; 454 km of highway; 400.7 km of provincial roads, 617 km of urban roads; about 7,021 km of district roads and rural roads.
From 2006 to now, capital for the development of transportation in Lam Dong is over VND6,400 trillion in which the period 2006-2010 was VND2,967,172 billion, the period 2010-2014 made up VND3,460,169 billion.
The expressway Lien Khuong - Prenn Pass was invested under the form of BOT; Highway 27 bypass Lien Khuong Airport, Finom - Eo Gio; Highway 28 bypass Dong Nai hydropower reservoir 3.4; provincial road DT.721, DT.723 by government bond fund; DT.725 funded by the Central Government; urban road network in the city of Da Lat, Bao Loc town, roads to the resort coming from the State budget, government bond, objective programmes. As for Project Expressway Dau Giay - Lien Khuong, the project has been named in the list of national key projects calling for investment until 2020. Lam Dong and Dong Nai province continue to coordinate with the Ministry of Transport to complete the preparation period of investment and calling for investment.
Under the implementation of the rural road development scheme in the province to 2010 and with the vision to 2020 with the People's Committee of Lam Dong province approving in Decision 1981/QD-UBND dated July 22, 2008, commune roads and inter-commune roads need to be concreted and asphalted, village roads are gradually hardened in accordance with standards of the Ministry of Transport by the state budget, government bond, objective programmes and people’s contribution. In the period 2006 - 2010, the province built 2,130 km rural roads with a total budget of VND1127 billion and from 2011 to now, the province has built 921km rural roads, including 606 km of newly-built roads and 315km of upgraded road. The province also invested in building and repairing more than 1.179m of bridge and 1,040m of tunnel with a total cost of over VND1,962 billion coming from various source of capital. The not-meet-standard bridges along national highways, provincial roads, district roads were also upgraded such as the bridge on Highway 28, DT.721, DT.723, DT.725, Lien Hung - Ron Dam, Quang Lap bridge, Trang Dinh Hoa bridge, Tan Van bridge, etc. Most of the district roads and city roads in the province are intercity passenger transportation route, there are many intercity routes setting off from many places in Lam Dong province but having the same destination such as the routes to Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and central province.
The socialization in the transport sector is also focused on, namely: the bus service is put into operation, mainly starting from the city of Da Lat, Bao Loc and Duc Trong to the centre of districts and cities in the province and some routes around Dalat; Has invested 10 bus station in the form of socialization with a total investment of VND105 billion, built 02 training centres, driving test, build 01 line to check means of transport in the city Bao Loc.
Clearly, in the period 2006- 2014, planning strategies for transport system development is of a greater importance. The transport plan is linked with the socio-economic development plan. So far, the transport development plan has partly completed, facilitating the province in the management and administration in the future.
Lam Dong Province approved the transportation development plan to 2020 and with the vision to 2030, in which defined road transport was a vital part of the socio-economic infrastructure which needed to be prioritized with orientation: Complete the expressway Dau Giay - Da Lat, upgrade highways; develop system of provincial roads, urban transportation, and rural transportation and improve the quality of transport services and ensure order and traffic safety across the province.
Thanks to the strong development of the road transport system in the locality over the years, the total of road transport capacity of Lam Dong has increased from 10.753 million passengers and 12.404 million tonnes of cargo in the period 2006- 2010 to 30,584 million passengers customers and 28,047 million tonnes of cargo in the period 2011 to now, creating tremendous momentum for the socio-economic development of the province.
