Dr Vu Tien Loc, President of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), received Mr Gordeev Andriy Anatoliyovich, Head of the Ukraine Congressional Budgetary Subcommittee and the Ukraine Congress Delegation at VCCI Head Office in Hanoi.

Gordeev Andriy Anatoliyovich said Ukrainian people are very keen on rice, coffee, pepper and especially fish from Vietnam. Hence, many Ukrainian businesses want to cooperate with Vietnamese partners to import rice, coffee and fish from Vietnam. In addition, Ukraine and Vietnam can also cooperate in aquaculture. Vietnam will transfer technology and fish species and Ukraine contributes investment capital and infrastructure. The climate in Ukraine is very good for raising fish species.

He also suggested the two sides speed up expertise exchanges the business delegations to each other seek more cooperation opportunities. Vietnam and Ukraine have not signed any free trade agreement; thus, he hoped the two governments will move toward signing a free trade agreement to facilitate business and trade development.
Dr Vu Tien Loc said that Ukraine should make a list of fields and companies that Ukrainian businesses want to cooperate and VCCI will inform its members and introduce suitable candidates for cooperation.

Vietnam and Ukraine established diplomatic relations on January 23, 1992. The two countries signed over 20 agreements on economic and commercial cooperation, which cover maritime transport, air transport, culture, education, science, investment encouragement and protection, double tax avoidance. Both sides have organised many meetings of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Commercial, Scientific and Technological Cooperation.

However, according to many experts, due to current political instability in Ukraine, doing business with this partner is a bit difficult. Thus, Vietnamese businesses are recommended to be careful before advancing any deals with Ukrainian partners. In addition, contracts must be strict and payment methods must be favourable enough to avoid risks.
