National Tourism Year 2016: Exploring Southern Land

The Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang will host the year, which is also joined by other provinces and cities, including Hanoi, Thua Thien - Hue, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Lam Dong, Lao Cai, Can Tho, Long An, Dong Thap, An Giang, Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, Soc Trang, Vinh Long, Tra Vinh, Tien Giang, Hau Giang and Ben Tre. A total of 65 events will be carried out throughout 2016.

 

This event will contribute to increasing the awareness of authorities and the masses of tourism development in association with protection of natural maritime resources, developing sea and island tourism into typical tourism products of Kien Giang province and the region. This is also a chance to introduce and communicate on tangible and intangible cultural values, natural resources and tourism products of Kien Giang and coordinating provinces and cities to create breakthroughs in tourism development outcomes.

 

Addressing at the press conference, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Vuong Duy Bien, said that the national tourism year is a major national cultural, economic and social event of the country designed to promote tourism roles in socioeconomic development. He also called localities to bring an end to impolite tourist solicitations or overcharging.

 

Also at the press conference, Mr Tran Chi Dung, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Kien Giang Province, said that Kien Giang province is rushing to upgrade urban areas and focusing human resources to upgrade major tourism attractions to serve more guests. The province now has more than 300 hotels with over 7,500 rooms and hundreds of motels to serve tourists during major festivals. Provincial agencies are working with central and local agencies to build scenarios and programmes for launch of high quality tourism products.

 

The opening ceremony of the National Tourism Year 2016 - Phu Quoc - Mekong Delta will take place on April 9, 2016 and the closing ceremony on December 24, 2016 in Phu Quoc island district, Kien Giang province.
