Dr Pham Thi Thu Hang, General Secretary of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), received and worked with Ms Saranya Hasathi Urgodawatte Dissanayake, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Vietnam, at the VCCI Head Office in Hanoi. The two sides reviewed bilateral cooperation relations in trade, industry and investment; and exchanged and proposed some measures to strengthen future cooperation.
Speaking at the meeting, Ms Hang said the Vietnam - Sri Lanka bilateral trade relation is very modest and the both sides need to push this relation to a new high. Vietnam welcomed and facilitated foreign companies in general and Sri Lankan firms in particular to explore investment and business opportunities in Vietnam.
She said many Vietnamese companies are keen on the Sri Lanka market, but lack information. In addition, geographical and cultural distances are also major obstacles.
Sharing this point of view, Sri Lanka Ambassador said Sri Lanka always treasures its ties with Vietnam and prioritises key tasks with Vietnam.
Remarking on business potential, she affirmed that Vietnam and Sri Lanka have a lot of economic potential but they failed to exploit it. She hoped that the two sides can boost cooperation in various fields. She is also very confident that the two nations can complement each other in trade and services.
In addition, Sri Lanka looks forward to promoting tourism and calling Vietnamese companies to invest in these fields.
She also invited VCCI and business delegations to visit Sri Lanka to seek cooperation and investment opportunities there in the coming time.
To increase investment and cooperation opportunities for companies of both nations in the future, Dr Pham Thi Thu Hang, suggested that the Embassy of Sri Lanka introduce the image and information of Sri Lanka further to the business community in Vietnam, especially, its investment opportunities, potential and strengths. Last but not least, VCCI also wants to coordinate with embassies to organise more forums and business meetings for companies of the two countries to seek cooperation and investment opportunities.
