Confidence in Vietnam Business Prospects

The European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham) recently announced the survey results of the Business Confidence Index (BCI) in QII/2016 in Vietnam, which shows that the confidence and business prospects of European businesses in Vietnam stands at the third highest level in history. Accordingly, the index is 77 points, only less than 79 points achieved in QI/2011 and 78 points in QIV/2014 of surveys. This shows the confidence in business environment of those who participated in the survey was much improved.
 
This survey was conducted among 883 businesses which are members of EuroCham before the time of the Brexit referendum (June 23rd), thereby the results of the survey are not related to the event.
 
According to the survey results, 66.7 percent of enterprises said "very good" and "good", only 12.5 percent ​​of respondents said "not good" and "very bad" when evaluating the business situation in QII/ 2016.
 
63.6 percent of companies surveyed said business prospects in coming quarters would be "good" and "very good". 49 percent of businesses surveyed predicted the number of orders or their sales would increase slightly in the next quarter. 15.6 percent were even more optimistic, expecting a significant increase in revenue in the next quarter. Thus, when asked about investment plans and development of staff numbers, businesses also had very positive and consistent feedback. Specifically, 43.8 percent of companies responded that they would increase investment, while 43.7 percent planed to increase staff numbers.
 
Commenting on the macroeconomic situation of Vietnam, Eurocham businesses said that the macroeconomic stability would maintain with 56.3 percent responded "stable and improving" and only 9.4 percent of businesses surveyed predicted that macroeconomics would decline. These are favourable conditions for businesses in Vietnam.
 
Michael Behrens, Chairman of EuroCham said "The results for QII 2016 indicated positive expectations for the near future and satisfaction with the current situation. EuroCham businesses maintain a positive attitude toward the Vietnam market and business activities in the country. This is a good sign for the implementation of Vietnam-EU free trade agreements which is expected to boost business activity and investment of European enterprises."
