The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vietnam said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan loosened visa procedures for six ASEAN countries from September 1, 2016 as follows:
The scope and conditions of application of “Online examination system for nationals in Southeast Asia before immigration arrival in Taiwan” are expanded. Conditional visa waiver will be applied to citizens of India, Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam, and now including Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos.
From September 1, 2016, people with a permanent residence card, residence card, valid visa or visa expired within the last 10 years in the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Schengen countries or South Korea (newly added) can follow online procedures available at the website (
https://niaspeedy.immigration.gov.tw/nia_southeast/). Certificates allow holders to stay in Taiwan for up to 30 days and allow for multiple re-entry over a 90-day validity period.
The scope of application of “Visa regulations on high-quality Southeast Asian tourists visiting Taiwan” and “One-door” visa registration policy is expanded. In addition to currently applied nations of India, Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam, new applicable countries are added, including Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos. Travel visas are granted once with a valid stay duration of 30 days. Online registration is available on the website
https://visawebapp.boca.gov.tw/BOCA_MRVWeb/.
After piloting the 30-day visa waiver policy for citizens of Thailand and Brunei from August 1, 2016, Taiwan continued to apply visa preference policy to citizens in other ASEAN countries. Besides, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in applicable countries will consider granting multiple-entry visas with a maturity period of two years, depending on nations.
The visa preference policy will bring more high-class tourists from ASEAN countries to Taiwan to travel, visit relatives, survey business opportunities and attend cultural activities. Taiwan wants to implement a “New south looking policy” where people are the heart of deepening relations, exchanges and cooperation between Taiwan and ASEAN countries on every level.
