Vietnam Welcomes 7.2 Million Int’l Tourists

The General Statistics Office (GSO) said that international visitor arrivals to Vietnam reached 1,036,880 in July 2017, an increase of 21.1 per cent over the same month in 2016. This was the fifth straight month international visitors to Vietnam exceed one million, totalling more than 7.2 million visitors in the seven months, up 28.8 per cent year on year. Visitors from most markets looked up. China continued to be the biggest tourism market for Vietnam with 2,216,814 arrivals, up 51 per cent year on year. Other markedly growing markets included Russia (49.3 per cent), South Korea (46.8 per cent), Hong Kong (30.1 per cent), Spain (27.8 per cent), Cambodia (23.6 per cent), the Philippines (23.4 per cent), and Taiwan (20.8 per cent).

According to Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien, the tourism industry set a target growth of 30-50 per cent in 2017 to receive at least 13 million international visitors to fulfil the task assigned by the Prime Minister.
