Local Bike Makers Complete Answers for Anti-dumping Lawsuit
Vietnamese enterprises exporting bikes to Canada have answered 23 questions posed by the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) regarding the anti-dumping lawsuit lodged by Canadian firms against imported bikes from foreign countries, including Vietnam, said Deputy chairman of the Vietnam Bicycle and Motorcycle Association (VBMA) Le Anh Tuan on Friday.
On November 22, 2004, the CITT decided to consider and take self-protective measures against imported bikes from foreign countries, including Vietnam.
Vietnamese enterprises will send the answers to the CITT on April 4, providing evidences to prove their case, Mr Tuan said.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Trade will hold a meeting with Vietnamese bike producers and relevant agencies to assess the effects of the lawsuit on bike production in the domestic market and discuss measures to protect Vietnamese firms’ rights.
Canada will release its final decision on the lawsuit on August 9 after a round of negotiations scheduled for June 3. Five Vietnamese enterprises, namely Ashama Yuhjiun International, Dragon Bicycles, ShengFa International, Away and Astro, will represent Vietnamese bike producers in the negotiation rounds.
Canada is one of Vietnam's major bike export markets, importing more than 328,000 units worth US$18.4 million from Vietnam last year, the trade ministry reported.
