Hanoi Customs Rakes in VND11,200 Bln for State Coffers

The Hanoi Customs Department collected about VND11,200 billion (US$480 million) for the State Budget in the first five months of 2023, fulfilling 33.77% of the assigned target and down 18% year on year.

Merchandise exports and imports cleared through Hanoi Customs valued at US$19.4 billion, down 11.6% year on year. Companies filed 500,000 import and export declarations in the period, up 1.3% from a year earlier.

Hanoi Customs serves about 20,000 importers and exporters, with about 50% of them regularly carrying out procedures at affiliated customs offices. The department has seen all types of imports and exports and all modes of transportation.

Notably, Hanoi Customs detected and seized 15 cases of smuggling electronic products (cell phones and watches), wild animals, tiger bones and animal products in the first five months of this year. The department prosecuted five cases and transferred three cases to the police for prosecution.

The agency also unearthed and captured 19 cases of illegal drug transportation; seized 481 kg of drugs; and arrested 15 traffickers.
