Hanoi is set to host its first-ever Lotus Festival from July 12 to July 16, 2024, at the Tay Ho Creative Cultural Space in Tay Ho District. This event aims to celebrate and honor the beauty and cultural significance of Thang Long, Hanoi, Tay Ho, and the lotus flower.

The festival will kick off with an opening ceremony on July 12, from 8:00 PM to 9:30 PM, featuring the introduction of OCOP (One Commune One Product) items related to the culture of Northern mountainous provinces. Over 5,000 delegates and visitors are expected to attend this grand opening. In addition, the festival will host a photo contest titled “Beauty, Ao Dai, and Lotus,” alongside a semi-realistic art program, “Story of the Lotus.” Attendees are encouraged to wear ao dai with lotus motifs and take photos at designated “check-in” points to promote the event. Participants can share their pictures on social media using hashtags like #lehoiSenHaNoi2024 and #SenTayHo or submit them to the festival’s official Facebook page, Lễ hội Sen Hà Nội (Hanoi Lotus Festival).

The event will feature 100 booths showcasing OCOP products and regional specialties from Northern mountainous provinces. Visitors can explore various lotus-related products including lotus flowers, lotus silk, lotus sweet soup, lotus sticky rice, lotus sausage, lotus dishes, lotus decorative items, and handicrafts. There will be displays of various lotus varieties across Vietnam, highlighting some of the most precious types.

The festival will also introduce the unique art of lotus tea marinating and other cultural aspects of lotus in Vietnamese life. It aims to enhance connections between producers and consumers, fostering the exchange and experience of Hanoi’s lotus products with other regions. This initiative is expected to boost tourism and stimulate the development of local OCOP products.

A highlight of the festival is the ceremony to recognize the Tay Ho lotus tea marinating craft as a national intangible cultural heritage, further cementing the cultural significance of the lotus in Vietnamese heritage.

This inaugural event promises to be a vibrant celebration of Hanoi’s rich cultural heritage and the timeless beauty of the lotus flower, bringing together local residents and visitors to appreciate the symbolic flower of the region.
