Vietnam Aims for Ambitious Car Exports
Vietnam expects to attain US$200 million a year from car exports by 2010, the Ministry of Trade said on its website about Vietnam’s export orientations until 2010.
The main markets for Vietnamese cars, mainly buses and trucks, will be the Middle East, South America, and Africa, it said.
Last year, Vietnam signed several small contracts to export buses to South American and the Middle East, including Vinamotor’s bus export to Dominica.
Vietnam now has around 200 enterprises engaged in assembling cars and supplying parts for the auto industry, including foreign-led carmakers like Toyota, Ford, Mitsubishi, BMW, Mazda and Daewoo.
Under the Auto Industry Development Strategy to 2010, the automotive industry can make 240,000 cars a year.
