2025 marks several major events for the Vietnamese people, including the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025) and the 80th anniversary of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).

Living in the current world full of opportunities and advantages coupled with difficulties and challenges, Vietnam is still entering a new era - the rising era of the nation with sustained effort and determination.

Heroic historical milestones

September 2 is the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, a vivid and sacred symbol in the history of the Vietnamese people, a day that every Vietnamese person has engraved deep in their hearts. 80 years ago, on September 2, 1945, at the historic Ba Dinh Square, President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence, resoundingly proclaiming freedom for a nation that had experienced many ups and downs, pains and losses. From that moment, Vietnam entered a new era, where the aspiration for independence, peace and happiness became true.

September 2 is a resplendent milestone, a “historical witness”. Although a long time has gone by, the glorious feats of the nation last forever, with an immortal declaration that future generations will never forget.

After 80 years, the National Day is not only a day of commemoration but also a day that awakens the pride of a resilient and indomitable country in the heart of every Vietnamese. It is the day when the spirit of solidarity and patriotism is most strongly demonstrated, when the whole nation joins hands and stands up to regain the right to self-determination. The significance of the National Day goes beyond the boundaries of a historical event; it is an endless source of inspiration, a reminder that freedom is not a given but the fruit of sacrifice and the spirit of indomitability before any enemy.

Besides, the National Day of September 2 is a flame that lights up every Vietnamese heart, continues the heroic tradition of our ancestors and motivates today's young generations to firmly step on the path of national development. The spirit of this day continues to spread and arouse the desire to advance and to build a powerful Vietnam to stand shoulder to shoulder with world powers as Uncle Ho wished. It is the day we honor the most sacred values: Freedom, independence and belief in the bright future of the nation.

The great spring victory, April 30, 1975, is a golden milestone of the Vietnamese people on the world political map when they completely won the war of southern aggression and domination against US imperialists to reunify the two divided regions.

The image of the liberation flag planted by warrior Bui Quang Than on the roof of the Independence Palace signaled the complete victory of the Vietnamese army and people, ending 30 years of resistance against foreign invaders and opening a new era for our country.

The victory on April 30, 1975 was a great achievement in the cause of national liberation and social liberation led by our Party and President Ho Chi Minh, a glorious and brilliant page in the history of national construction and defense for thousands of years. Our army and people proudly concluded the 30-year struggle for independence, freedom, and reunification, ending the century-long dominion of colonialism in our country. This victory is a symbol of the global revolutionary forces, contributing to the worldwide struggle for national independence, peace, democracy, and social progress.

April 30 is a national holiday of great historical significance, an annual occasion to remind future generations of the sacrifices and indomitable spirit of our people for today’s independence and freedom.

Time has long passed, but the historical lessons and significance of the Southern Liberation and National Reunification Day, April 30, 1975, and Independence Day, September 2, 1945, still retain their value and have profound impacts on Vietnamese spiritual and cultural life today.

Firmly leading the country into a new era

Vietnam is endeavoring to accelerate and successfully implement the resolution of the 13th National Party Congress toward the 80th anniversary of Independence Day and the 50th anniversary of the National Reunification Day, determined to realize development goals until 2030, the 100th anniversary of the country under the leadership of the Party.

After nearly 40 years of Doi Moi (renovation), opening and integration policy, addressing voluminous difficulties and challenges, Vietnam has obtained great achievements of historical significance in all fields. The economic scale and potential have rapidly expanded. From a poor, underdeveloped country, Vietnam has become a middle-income developing country. The socialist-oriented market economy has effectively developed as expected. In 2024, Vietnam's economic scale reached US$476.3 billion, ranking 34th globally. Per capita GDP surpassed US$4,700, marking an increase of over 58 times since the early years of Doi Moi.

Additionally, the investment and business environment became more favorable as Vietnam transformed from a "closed" economy to an "open" economy, a major trading partner globally. Vietnam's trade value approached the US$800 billion milestone, marking a new record in foreign trade. By the end of 2024, Vietnam attracted approximately US$38.23 billion in foreign investment.

The United Nations recognized Vietnam as one of the leaders in realizing the millennium goals, especially in poverty reduction, gender equality, health care and education.

Today, Vietnam is facing great opportunities and fortunes and entering an era of national development. This is an era of breakthrough development and acceleration led by the Party, successfully building a rich, strong, democratic, fair, civilized, prosperous and happy socialist Vietnam; and catching up, advancing together and standing shoulder to shoulder with world powers. Top priority in the new era is to successfully achieve strategic goals: Vietnam will become a developing modern industrial middle-income country by 2030 and a developed high-income socialist country by 2045; all people will experience comprehensive development, leading prosperous, free, happy, and civilized lives.
