Vietnamese, Chinese Localities Foster Tourism Ties
The Tourism Departments of northern border Lao Cai province and Honghe district in China’s Yunnan province have agreed to open representative offices in the others locality to promote bilateral co-operation in tourism.
Under an agreement recently signed, the two sides will coordinate with relevant forces, including border guards, medical workers and customs officers, to facilitate tourists’ entry-exist procedures.
The authorities of the two provinces also agreed to extend the opening time of the Lao Cai-Heikou border gate to 10pm everyday, open new tours and hold regular meetings to discuss measures to boost cooperation and eliminate difficulties in tourism management and business.
"The move will bring more Chinese arrivals to Lao Cai in particular and other provinces in general, said an official from the Lao Cai Tourism Department, revealing that Vietnam welcomed 96,270 tourists from China in the first two months of 2006.
