Standard Chartered successfully arranges a US$721 million social syndicated loan for HDBank
The signing ceremony, held recently in Ho Chi Minh City, brought together HDBank, Standard Chartered, ADB and participating international financial institutions to celebrate the successful completion of the transaction. The facility represents HDBank's largest syndicated social loan to date and marks a significant milestone in Vietnam's sustainable finance market.
Working alongside ADB and a syndicate of international lenders, Standard Chartered leveraged its global network and syndication capabilities to mobilise financing for HDBank, with eventual participation from 29 commercial banks across the syndicate. Structured in accordance with the Social Loan Principles and HDBank's Sustainable Finance Framework, the facility attracted strong demand from international investors and ultimately closed at approximately 60 per cent above its initial target size of USD450 million.
The successful syndication highlights growing international investor confidence in both HDBank and Vietnam's economic prospects. As Social Loan Coordinator, Standard Chartered worked closely with HDBank to establish a robust framework for the allocation and monitoring of proceeds under the Social Loan Principles.

Ms. Nguyen Thuy Hanh, CEO of Standard Chartered Vietnam, speaks at the event
Speaking at the event, Nguyen Thuy Hanh, CEO and Head of Banking & Coverage, Standard Chartered Bank Vietnam, said: "We are proud to partner with HDBank and the wider international lender community on this landmark transaction. Building on the success of HDBank's inaugural international syndicated loan in 2025, this second transaction reflects the strength of the partnership between Standard Chartered and HDBank, as well as our shared commitment to supporting sustainable and inclusive growth in Vietnam. By leveraging Standard Chartered's global network, syndication expertise and sustainable finance capabilities, we successfully coordinated and mobilised broad international lender support to expand access to finance for MSMEs and women-owned and women-led businesses, while contributing to Vietnam's long-term economic development."
Dr Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Strategic Investor and Vice Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of HDBank, said: “This facility marks a new milestone in the development journey of both HDBank and myself. It is our first loan dedicated exclusively to social initiatives, including programmes that support women. The success of this transaction recognises HDBank's long-standing commitment to supporting communities through initiatives that assist individuals and businesses, promote healthcare, education, culture and sports, and support women and children.”

The signing ceremony marks the successful completion of the transaction
Building on the successful USD140 million syndicated loan completed for HDBank in 2025, where Standard Chartered acted as Sole Coordinator and Joint Mandated Lead Arranger and Bookrunner, this transaction marks another important milestone in the longstanding relationship between the two institutions. Looking ahead, Standard Chartered remains committed to supporting HDBank's growth ambitions and will continue to leverage its international network, investor access and product expertise to support innovative financing solutions, capital markets activities and sustainable development objectives in Vietnam.
