VNPT Mobile phone Charge Cut - Big Change in Telecom Price in Vietnam
From June 1, 2006, the Vietnam Posts and Telecoms Group (VNPT) will apply the 6+1 second block billing system for its telecom services. VNPT cuts at most 15 per cent of charges for mobile phone service, 20 per cent for IDD calls and 30 per cent for CityPhone services.
This is the first time VNPT to be allowed to apply the same billing system as other service providers. To let other enterprises grow, VNPT were banned from changing billing methods and reducing charges. Hence, the new player Viettel has signed up more than three million subscribers within one year and a half. VNPT now has nearly nine million subscribers out of 12 million in total.
According to the forecast of the Minister of Posts and Telecoms Do Trung Ta, Vietnam will have 52 million telephone subscribers by 2010, including 36 million mobile phone subscribers, trebling the current volume. The changes in call charge and billing method are momentum for the realisation of the target.
