Construction Material Export to Fetch US$400Mln in 2010
Vietnam’s material construction sector has set a target to obtain total export values of US$400 million in 2010, according to the Vietnam Construction Material Association.
Last year, the sector reported total export earnings of US$113 million, a 4.5-fold increase compared to 2001.
The association said Vietnam’s WTO membership will help expand export markets for the sector. However, the sector will also face fierce competition from China, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia in terms of price, model, and quality.
To date, the country is home to 250 enterprises who produce and export construction materials such as tiles, sanitary ceramic wares, construction glass, construction stones and others. Its construction materials are now present in 100 foreign markets.
Vietnam now ranks first among Asian countries in the production of tiles.
To boost export, four Vietnamese construction material firms will join the 2006 International Construction Material Trade Fair in Tokyo, Japan from November 13-18 to showcase sanitary wares, wooden products, tiles, and other construction materials. (Investment Jun 19 p11)
