Honeywell - Nothing but the best
With a population of over 80 million, a fast economic growth rate of more than 7 per cent and continuous efforts to improve the investment environment from the Government, Vietnam represents an attractive market for foreign investors. The year 2006 marks a milestone for Vietnam when it holds the APEC summit meeting for the first time. With WTO entry expected late this year, Vietnam is now playing an important role in the global economy. As a leader in diversified technology and manufacturing, Honeywell is proud of being a trade facilitator in Vietnam.
October 2006 saw Honeywell begin its sales and marketing operations in Vietnam by establishing a Representative office in HCM City. According to Mr. Pak Kuan, General Manager of Honeywell Process Solutions SEA, there are 3 broad objectives for its presence here in Vietnam. Firstly, to serve the market better with Honeywell’s Automation and Control Solutions (ACS)-one of its strategic business entities. Secondly, to develop project management ability, engineering and application design, services and support capabilities. Thirdly, to transfer the know-how and capabilities in automation technology, solution design and development capabilities to Vietnamese employees.
Although this is the first office in Vietnam, Honeywell has already played a vital role in Vietnam’s transformation from a crude oil exporting country to a high quality oil producer. The recently signed contract valued at US$ 17.5 million to supply process controls for Vietnam’s first oil refinery in Dung Quat very clear proof of this.
The global demand for energy is growing at tremendous pace and Vietnam is moving in the same direction, as will Honeywell. “The demand for oil & gas will create a strong demand for process automation solution providers to constantly deliver and supply integrated control system, safety instrumented system, business and advanced applications to meet the goals and expectations of the oil & gas operators in Vietnam”, says Pak Kuan. With ACS invested by Dung Quat Refinery, it is clear that Vietnamese technology is on par with that of the global standards. This is the latest state of the art process control system supplied by Honeywell. This indicates that Vietnam is taking the right steps to embrace technology, which is essential for economic development.
To meet the increasing demands of the process industry, it is Honeywell’s plan to transform the Representative office into a full-fledged regional office in the future. Honeywell sees a big potential in Vietnam in sectors like chemicals, pulp & paper, minerals and metal mining. The company is also now transferring the knowledge to local engineers in the areas of project management, commissioning services, advanced applications and business optimization solutions.
