A conference was jointly held by Finnish Embassy in Vietnam and Finnpartnership project in Hanoi on November 28, aiming to enhance business cooperation between companies and organizations operating in Finland, and those from Vietnam.

Addressing the gathering, project director Sari Nikka said, as for Vietnam, the Finnpartnership, a program on business cooperation with Finland, is targeted to mobilize capital and technology transfer from Finland into the country.

Besides, the program also helps accelerate goods exports from Vietnam to Finland and the EU as well as other countries via the relationship between the two countries.

Through the linking services of the program, a Vietnamese company can find potential partners. When the two sides agree to cooperate, they can ask for financial assistance from the program. In addition, Finnpartnership offers the companies other services namely financial consultancy services and support in developing business activities if required.

The program has set up a fund for introducing exported products of Vietnam to Finland.

Finnish investment into Vietnam remains modest with only three projects worth $16.34 million.

Vietnam ranks at the bottom of the ASEAN exporters' list to Finland, posting export value of only 41.4 million euros in 2002 while Finland's official development assistance (ODA) disbursement to Vietnam was 6.5 million euros in 2003. The co-operation just focused on rural development, forestry and water aiming to reduce poverty.
