Nearly US$850Mln FDI Flows into Northern Mountainous Region

Foreign direct investment (FDI) into 12 northern mountainous provinces to date is estimated at US$847 million for 132 projects, the Ministry of Planning and Investment reported.
 
Of the sum, around US$170 million has been disbursed.
 
Between January and March this year Thai Nguyen, Cao Bang, Lao Cai and Son La provinces in the region attracted five FDI projects worth US$107 million.
 
Gross Domestic Product of the region rose 11.4 per cent over the past two years, and per capita income increased 2.3 folds from the year 2000. The region’s total social investment expanded 40 per cent, pulling in US$2.3 billion, according to a recent announcement released at a conference, reviewing two-year implementation of the Politburo’s Resolution 37, in Hanoi.
