Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung expressed his hope in Hanoi August 7 that the German government would raise ODA capital for Vietnam, help the Southeast Asian nation build a metro route in Ho Chi Minh City, and build German University in his country, said local media.

The call was made at his talks with outgoing German Ambassador Christian-Ludwig Weber-Lortsch, who was urged to be a good friend of Vietnam in the coming time.

The Vietnamese Prime Minister applauded Christian-Ludwig Weber-Lortsch’s great contributions to boosting two-way trade and attracting German investors to Vietnam.

Christian-Ludwig Weber-Lortsch affirmed that he will continuously be a good friend of Vietnam and promised to convey Dung’s message to the German government.

Germany pledged financial and technical assistance worth 98 million euros in 2006-2007 for economic and industrial environment protection, and healthcare projects in Vietnam.

Trade between Vietnam and Germany rose from US$1 billion in 2001 to US$3 billion in 2006. However, investment from Germany to Vietnam remains modest compared to the real potential and desire of the two sides.

The two countries already signed the Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement, agreements on aviation and maritime cooperation, and the Double Tax Avoidance Agreement. (Foreign Ministry)
