Vinashin Kicks off $31 Mln Container Factory in Northern Vietnam
Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corp. (Vinashin) October 14 started construction of a container factory costing VND500 billion ($31.2 million) in the northern Bac Giang province, Vietnam Economic Times reported Tuesday.
The facility covering an area of 16.9 hectares has annual designed capacity of 30,000 TEUs, said Vinashin on its website, adding that international standadized steel cover for 20 x 40 feets will be produced here.
Once in place, it is expected to create 900 jobs and post annual revenue of over VND1 trillion ($62.5 million), the website noted.
Vietnam’s largest shipbuilder also started construction of a technical school with to train over 1,500 workers mainly electricians, electronics engineers to repair and operate ships.
Vinashin with current 25 shipyards planned to build seven new shipyards, six shipbuilding industrial parks and seven shipbuilding industrial complexes nationwide. The company expects to attain revenues of $1 billion this year, up from $690 million in 2005. (
